NaBloPoMo Day 17
Life is so different living in the middle of nowhere. I knew it would be but reality is still harsh. We have to plan differently when we go out, when it's a place farther that we want to go. We can't just drive 1 to 2 hours to do 1 thing. We have to plan to do other things in the area to make the drive worth it.
Examples...in Salt Lake we loved to go to movie screenings. Any movie theater was 30 min away or less and it was easy to go for a date night. However, here in CA...any movie screening we want to go to so far is 100+ miles away. So we could make a whole day trip out of it but if we dont get there early enough and don't get a seat, then the drive is pointless. But if we are going to make a whole day out of it and do other things in the area as well, not as bad.
Snapchat Spectacles are still something I'm after. I am kicking myself hard for not getting them on Day 1 when they were at Venice Beach. I guess I wasn't really paying attention to the actual launch day or location. So now, even if I were to go to a location that is 2-3 hours from me, there's a very good chance I wouldn't get a pair because more people know about them now and the lines are longer and the bots seem to be running out of them faster. So I'd drive 2-3 hours only to be so sad. I hope they sell them differently in the future.
Groceries...we def spend more on food if we shop in town. Even with sales and using the ibotta app. Luckily we figured out there is a Winco about an hour from us so if we go there a couple times a month and only go to the grocery stores in town for 'emergencies' then we should save a lot of money. Even with having to make the hour drive.
Oil changes. Really. In SLC I could get a deal for about $20. Here in RC, there are no shops that just do oil changes. Even the new super Walmart that opened up this week doesn't offer oil changes! So disappointing. I emailed a couple shops and they quoted me $40-60. For an oil change. No no no. I refuse to spend that ridiculous amount on something Tony could do himself, if he wanted to. But...he would rather not so I will take my car out of town, on a day we go out of town, and get my oil changed somewhere else for half the cost. Geez Louse. So lame.
Anyways...these are just differences I am noticing and I thought I'd document them.
